Rangers have been linked with Manchester United-owned midfielder James Garner, with his agent telling Stretty News that Steven Gerrard’s side are “really keen” on him.

Garner’s agent Steven Beck told Stretty News: “I know Brighton like him, I know Norwich like him. […] I know Rangers are really keen on him as well.”

Rangers have already won the Scottish Premiership title this season and reached the Europa League Round of 16, and it seems that the Gers are already planning for the 2021-22 campaign.

Garner is a very talented and promising young midfielder, and if United decide to let him leave next season, then it will most likely be a loan deal.

The 20-year-old midfielder has played twice in the Premier League for United so far and is now on loan at Nottingham Forest.

The England Under-20 international spent the first half of the season on loan at Watford and is now on loan at Forest.

According to WhoScored, Garner provided one assist in 20 Championship games for the Hornets and has scored two goals in 13 Championship matches for Forest.

Former United and Scotland international midfielder Darren Fletcher is a big fan of Garner and rates him highly.

The Daily Mail quoted the former West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City midfielder as saying about Garner in September 2019: “People talk about the leaders and who is going to help them, which is an important side [to the argument], so it’s a difficult one but I’m sure as the season goes on you’re going to see more of James Garner because he’s top class.

“I’m surprised he’s not featured so far but by the end of the season I’m sure that people will know who he is without a doubt, if you don’t by now.”

Garner would make Rangers better in the middle of the park and would give manager Gerrard another good option.
