Glasgow Rangers duo Stephen Kelly and Glenn Middleton were in action for Steven Gerrard’s side at Ibrox on Wednesday.
Rangers manager Steven Gerrard
Kelly played in his first competitive match for Rangers on Wednesday evening, as the 18-year-old central midfielder featured against Ayr at Ibrox in the quarter-finals of the Scottish League Cup.
The youngster came on as a substitute in the 69th minute, and the midfielder has revealed what Rangers manager Gerrard told him before he made his debut in the 4-0 win.
The match against Ayr also saw Glenn Middleton make his full debut for Rangers in a competitive match.
The 18-year-old Scotland Under-21 international was sensational for the Gers in the comfortable win on Wednesday evening.
The Herald quotes Kelly as saying: “He (Gerrard) told me to get up to the speed of the game quickly as I could and move the ball quick.”
Middleton told The Daily Record: “The manager just told me to give the right-back pure hell. I’m always going to go at someone – as that’s just what I do.”

Teenage sensations
Both Kelly and Middleton are superb footballers, and the duo certainly have bright futures at Rangers.
Middleton, especially, is playing brilliantly at the moment, and one should not be surprised if the former Norwich City prospect establishes himself in the Rangers starting lineup in the coming weeks and months.
