Steven Gerrard has told Aston Villa’s press conference that Harry Kane has been “very loyal” to Tottenham – and his defence will have to be at their “diligent” best to stop the North London club’s “world-class” attacker.

Kane, 28, has been superb of late for Tottenham. Seven goals and four assists in his last eight Premier League matches – as well as the March Player of the Month award. He is taking Spurs back into the top four.

If Spurs are to win a place in the Champions League, then Kane will have to continue his stunning form under the guidance of Antonio Conte to stand a chance. They remain in fourth, but Arsenal have a game in hand.

An away trip to the inconsistent Aston Villa will be tricky for Spurs – but with Kane playing the way he is, the striker will be difficult to stop. Gerrard praised the “world-class” ace – and his loyalty to remain at Spurs.

“He’s world class. He’s been very loyal to Tottenham, in my opinion. We need to make sure we’re very diligent and set up right to control him. He’s one of very few players on the planet that when he’s at it, he’s unstoppable.

“He’s that level of player. He has good back-up, in terms of the other forward players around him – Son Heung-Min, Dejan Kulusevski. We need to be right at it tomorrow, from a defensive point of view,” Gerrard said.

Gerrard on Kane: Tottenham star has power to dispose of Villa

If, he is at his brilliant best. Tyrone Mings will know him well and Ezri Konsa, on his day, is a brilliant option at centre-back. Gerrard states that Villa need to sort out a way of coping with Kane, perhaps differently.

Indeed, different to the way Newcastle allowed him space. If Kane drops in and Villa give him the space, then they will be punished. They need to find a way to deny the “unstoppable” Tottenham star – or give up three points.
