Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has explained to The Daily Mail the kind of football he wants to play at Ibrox.

Liverpool legend Gerrard has recently been appointed as the Rangers manager and will take charge of the Ibrox club next month.

This will be the former England international midfielder’s first managerial role of a first team.

Gerrard has been working as the Liverpool Under-18 manager since the summer of 2017, and the former Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder has outlined how he plans to play his football at Ibrox.

Steven Gerrard is unveiled as the new manager of Rangers football Club at Ibrox Stadium on May 4, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

“I want these supporters to be proud of the team,” Gerrard told The Daily Mail. “I want to see a team that’s full of fight, that’s full of passion.

“I want to see players that are prepared to empty the tank and give me everything they’ve got. I want confident players who can handle pressure.

“I want to bring a brand of football here that excites the fans, but all that aside, it’s important that we win. You can talk about football all day long, the key at this club is you have to win football matches.”

Exciting for Rangers fans

Gerrard’s prospective playing style seems to be hugely exciting, and Rangers fans should be looking forward to it.

The Liverpool legend was a very combative and dynamic midfielder during his playing career, and one suspects that he will want that same fight and spirit in the players.

Rangers could finish second in the Scottish Premiership table this season, and that will be progress from their 2017-18 campaign.
