Rangers will be without Ryan Kent for tonight’s game.
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has told The Scottish Herald that Eros Grezda and Glenn Middleton will be in line for big opportunities after Ryan Kent’s injury.
The Gers are back in action tonight as they take on Spartak Moscow in the Europa League, and will be hoping to boost their hopes of qualification for the knockout stages with a win in Russia.
A 0-0 draw at Ibrox in their last meeting showcased a disappointing performance, with Rangers really lacking a thrust in the final third to break Spartak down.
Rangers now face a major problem as winger Kent has a hamstring problem, and will be out of action for tonight’s game with a hamstring injury.
Kent has been one of Rangers’ better attacking players this season, and his absence tonight will be a huge blow to Gerrard’s hopes of landing a result.
With Jamie Murphy also out of action, it’s imperative that Rangers’ other wingers step up, with Grezda and Middleton in line for big opportunities.
Albanian international Grezda only made his first start in Saturday’s 2-0 win at St Mirren, whilst youngster Middleton has been billed as one for the future rather than an instant impact player.
Now, Gerrard has admitted that Grezda and Middleton are set for big opportunities to fill in for Grezda, calling on them to impress as they look to secure more regular playing time.
“I think someone else will see it as an opportunity for themselves,” said Gerrard. ”With the form he has been in and how much he has been growing and improving week by week, it is certainly a blow for us. That’s the reason why we have a squad, to have different options in different positions so it will certainly be an opportunity for Grezda, for Glen Middleton, maybe something different that we might try.”
“It’s definitely an opportunity for someone else but as a manager, you never want to lose anyone and certainly not someone who is in good form,” he added.
