Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has suggested to The Glasgow Evening Times that he could bring more players to Ibrox in the January transfer window.

Striker Jermain Defoe has joined Rangers on an 18-month loan deal from Bournemouth, while midfielder Steven Davis has moved to Ibrox on loan from Southampton until the end of the season.

Rangers have also agreed pre-contract agreements with winger Jordan Jones and midfielder Glen Kamara.

Gerrard has suggested that Rangers could still make signings this month, but the Liverpool legend has admitted that for new players to come in, some have to leave.

Rangers manager Gerrard told The Glasgow Evening Times: “Without mentioning any names, there will possibly be players moving on and that will dictate whether we add anyone else to the squad.

“At the moment we are very satisfied with what we’ve got but if someone wants to leave we probably would have to look for cover.”

Title challenge

Rangers are going strong in the Scottish Premiership at the moment and are genuine challengers for the league title.

The signing of Defoe has been a masterstroke, as the striker is an experienced and proven goalscorer.

Davis is also going to enhance the quality of the Rangers midfield, and perhaps this season the Gers could bring Celtic’s dominance in Scotland to an end.

Rangers are second in the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 42 points from 21 matches, level on points with leaders Celtic, who have played 20 games.
