Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has told The Scottish Sun that Connor Goldson wants to play for the Ibrox club all the time.

Goldson joined Rangers from Premier League club Brighton and Hove Albion in the summer transfer window for a transfer fee reported by The Glasgow Evening Times to be worth £3 million.

The 25-year-old central defender has established himself as an important player in Gerrard’s team, but he did not play well against Spartak Moscow in the Europa League on Thursday evening.

Rangers manager Gerrard has suggested that he could leave the former Shrewsbury Town defender out of the team for the Scottish Premiership game against Motherwell at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday afternoon.

Gerrard told The Scottish Sun: “Connor is constantly in my face saying, ‘Don’t give me a rest, don’t give me a rest, don’t give me a rest’. But there will be a time when I have got to help him. He won’t like that but it is my job.”

Much-needed rest

Goldson has made 11 appearances in the Scottish Premiership, eight in the Europa League qualifying, four in the Europa League and twice in the Scottish League Cup, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.

It would not be a bad idea for the defender to rest against Motherwell and then return to the team stronger and refreshed after the international break.
