Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has suggested to The Daily Record that reported Newcastle United target Alfredo Morelos could be sold in the summer transfer window.

Morelos is one of the best strikers in the Scottish Premiership and is a key figure at Rangers.

A report in The Scottish Sun in May claimed of interest in the Colombia international striker from Newcastle, Everton and West Ham United among other clubs.

FootMercato reported this week that French club Rennes are looking to make a move for the 24-year-old striker.

Gerrard has raved about Morelos, and he has admitted that a big bid could see Rangers cash in on him.

Gerrard told The Daily Record about Morelos: “Alfredo is a fantastic footballer. He scores goals in big volumes and I’m really looking forward to him getting match fit, up to speed and ready to play.

“But I suppose what you want me to say is, whether he will be here next year. That’s the million dollar question. I want all my best players here, I’ve said that many times.

“For us to be successful, we need our best players fit, available and out there on the pitch.

“But you and I know that every player has his price. Will we get bids for our best players? It’s quite possible.

“That’s something I can’t control, so it’s something we are just going to have to manage going forward.”

Good signing for Newcastle United?

Morelos does have disciplinary issues, but he is a very good goalscorer, and the 24-year-old is likely to end up in the Premier League at some point in the future.

Newcastle could do with a new striker in the summer transfer window, as Joelinton has struggled to score goals this season and cannot be relied upon to bang in 20+ goals in 2020-21.

At the right price, Morelos could prove to be a smart signing for Newcastle this summer.
