Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers are said to be interested in snapping up Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic.

Steven Gerrard is unveiled as the new manager of Rangers football Club at Ibrox Stadium on May 4, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Steven Gerrard is said to be on the verge of signing Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic by the Scottish Sun, and if Glasgow Rangers successfully complete the double-swoop it will be a major positive for the Ibrox side.

Gerrard wants to bring in two new defenders to improve his defence next term, and adding Goldson and Katic so early on this summer could be crucial.

Goldson and Katic could now have the whole of pre-season to get used to playing together, and that should give Gerrard the chance to make sure his defensive pairing is fully in place by the time next season starts.

Rangers struggled to find a consistent centre-back pairing this past campaign, with the likes of Bruno Alves, Fabio Cardoso, Russell Martin and Ross McCrorie all playing there for portions of the season.

But Gerrard should be credited for coming in at Rangers and quickly resolving their issues at centre-back, by seemingly bringing in two new players so early on in the summer transfer window.

If Goldson and Katic do partner each other throughout the whole of pre-season, they should be fully accustomed to playing alongside each other by the time the competitive action starts.

And that could be a smart move from Gerrard, as the last thing Rangers need is another season where their defence is shuffled around constantly.
