Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers are believed to be set to appoint Steven Gerrard to take over from Graeme Murty in the near future.

Steven Gerrard should return to his Merseyside routes, but go to Everton rather than Liverpool for his first signing, if he takes over at Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers.

Rangers are said to be set to appoint Gerrard in the near future, with wholesale changes expected to be made at Ibrox in the summer transfer window.

Rangers are expected to back Gerrard with funds, and he should use some of his budget to finance a move for Kieran Dowell at Everton.

Dowell has enjoyed a productive loan spell at Nottingham Forest this season, and is regarded as one of the Toffees’ best up-and coming talents.

However, Rangers should look to offer him first-team football in the hope of persuading him to move to Scotland.

Whether Rangers would be able to finance a permanent deal remains questionable, but even on a loan move, Dowell would be a great addition to the Light Blues’ squad.

Dowell has hit nine goals in the Championship this season at the age of 20, and a move to Rangers could help improve his development further.

Dowell could be the key creative figure in Gerrard’s new look Rangers team, and if there is any chance of doing a deal with Everton, the Glasgow side should seize it.
