The Rangers midfielder has only played three times for the Ibrox boss, Gerrard.

Steven Gerrard has revealed that Graham Dorrans has suffered a setback on the road to a Rangers return.

Dorrans – for whom Rangers are said to have paid around £1.3 million 18 months ago [Transfermarkt] – has only played 23 times for the Gers, and last appeared against Ayr United in late September.

The 31-year-old had been tipped for a January comeback, but speaking via the official Rangers Twitter account on Tuesday morning, Gerrard said:

Luckily, Gerrard was able to strengthen in Dorrans’ position last month, adding Steven Davis, Glen Kamara and Matt Polster to an already strong-looking central midfield roster.

However, the Rangers manager went on to suggest that two of those, Scott Arfield and Ryan Jack, could be touch and go for tomorrow night’s Scottish Cup visit of Kilmarnock.

Dorrans has 15 months left on his contract at Ibrox, and could face an important few months upon his return to fitness.
