Steven Gerrard has told Harvey Elliott on his Instagram story to ‘get well soon’ after his horror injury during Liverpool’s 3-0 win at Leeds on Sunday.

Just before the hour mark, the Liverpool teenager was tackled by Pascal Struijk, with the challenge from the Leeds man resulting in him seemingly breaking his ankle.

There wasn’t any bad intentions from the Leeds player, nor any aggression or out-of-control nature to his tackle.

It was just an unfortunate moment that resulted in the thriving Liverpool star having to leave the Elland Road pitch on a stretcher.

The tackle occurred right in front of both dugouts, so understandably, there was concern on the faces of all.

Struijk was shown a straight red for the tackle, even though it perhaps wasn’t, but it seemed the nature of Elliott’s injury forced the on-field referee and VAR to make that call.

For Elliott, he will be hoping the results that come back to him during the next 24-48 hours are better than what the initial fear is.

He has been outstanding for the Reds this season and given that Jurgen Klopp has put faith in an 18-year-old by playing him in such big fixtures proves how much belief and trust the German has in him.

Plus, Elliott should look across the dressing room and to someone like Vigil van Dijk, who has come back stronger and fitter than ever after his own horror injury last season.

Then there’s the environment in which Elliott is in on Merseyside, with that type of dressing room and leaders, he will have endless support and strength to guide him through this difficult moment.
