Rangers play host to Kilmarnock on Wednesday night.
Steven Gerrard has told Rangers TV that his players are “lucky” to face Kilmarnock so soon after their Scottish League Cup semi-final loss to Aberdeen on Sunday.
Rangers suffered a 1-0 loss to Derek McInnes’ men on Sunday afternoon at Hampden Park, with Lewis Ferguson scoring the only goal of the game with an excellent header from a corner.
It was just the third loss of Gerrard’s tenure as manager in 23 outings, but it sees the Gers miss out on their first chance to challenge the likes of Celtic for the first piece of silverware up for grabs.
Gerrard said it should be “easy” for the Rangers squad to gee themselves up against Steve Clarke’s Kilmarnock at Ibrox on Wednesday night, and their lucky to have the chance to bounce back immediately.
“It should be easy [to lift the Rangers players] because if the players are feeling like I’ve felt since that final whistle, and if the players are feeling like the fans have felt since that final whistle, it should be pretty easy to lift yourself,” Gerrard said.
“The players are lucky there is a game on Wednesday night because otherwise, they would have had to wait a week for St. Mirren. So they’re lucky there’s a game.”
Rangers players were way below par against Aberdeen, with the club missing the likes of Alfredo Morelos and Kyle Lafferty who were suspended and cup tied for the clash.
Rangers could climb to third in the league with a win, if Celtic drop points against Dundee at Dens Park while Livingston take on St. Johnstone.
