Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has raved about Brandon Barker in The Glasgow Evening Times.

Gerrard was impressed with the performance of Barker in the 2-0 win for Rangers against Kilmarnock at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday afternoon.

The 23-year-old winger started the match and played for 86 minutes, and Rangers boss Gerrard has raved about him, and has said that the former Manchester City prospect trains well.

Gerrard told The Glasgow Evening Times: “I’m pleased for him. I think that’s his first full game in a long, long time with the injury problems he’s had and not settling in places.

“He’s earned his chance today. He’s trained really well. We played a bounce game against Plymouth and he was really dangerous. He’s showed me that he was ready for an opportunity.

“In the first half he had some real dangerous moments where he showed his pace. That’s what we want him to do, show his attributes more and he has got it.

“It’s difficult for opposition players to handle Kent and Barker if they are both at it and today they were.”

Stats

According to WhoScored, Barker has made one start and two substitute appearances in the Scottish Premiership for Rangers so far this season.

Against Kilmarnock on Saturday afternoon, the winger took four shots of which one was on target, played one key pass, had a pass accuracy of 93.8%, won one header, took 67 touches, attempted one dribble, made two tackles, and put in six crosses, according to WhoScored.

During the 2019-20 campaign, the 23-year-old scored one goal in six Scottish Premiership matches and made appearances in the Europa League for Gerrard’s side, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.

Barker had had injury problems and has been a fringe player, but perhaps he could become an important figure in Rangers’ quest to win the Scottish Premiership title this season.
