Speaking on the High Performance Podcast, Steven Gerrard has revealed that Steven Davis pretty much manages himself at Ibrox due to the high standards he maintains without having to be asked.
The Northern Ireland international seems to be a model professional by the sounds of things, with Gerrard claiming that he has to do very little work with him, as he maintains the standards expected without even being asked.
It’s to be expected really, Davis has been in this game for a long time and has worked under some very talented managers, so he’ll have picked a number of things up along the way.
“They’re different characters, different people, humans. I think over time, you have to get used to them, and you have to try and get the best out of that individual, but you have to realise that one individual to another,” Gerrard said.
“Some people manage themselves. I’ll give you an example, Steven Davis he comes into work, his standards are the same every day. His diet, his body weight, his attitude, his energy. He manages himself, I have to give him very little, very little.”

Davis sounds like a manager’s dream.
Gerrard probably wishes he could have 25 Davis’s in his squad, and when you hear about the way he conducts himself, you can understand why.
Of course, there will be some more difficult characters at the club, but having a player like Davis in the squad just gives the Liverpool legend one less thing to worry about.
Hopefully, others at the club follow Davis’ example.
