Newcastle United lost against Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League at the weekend.

Shelvey did not feature for Newcastle in their Premier League game against Liverpool away from home at Anfield this past Saturday evening.
The 26-year-old midfielder is on the sidelines at the moment with a knee injury.
Gerrard played with Shelvey at Liverpool, and the 37-year-old former England international midfielder believes that Newcastle missed him against the Reds at Anfield.

The Chronicle quotes Gerrard as saying: “I thought they missed Shelvey – he’s the one player in the Newcastle squad who has the ability to open the door and put a great through pass in on goal the likes of Shelvey. Gayle missed Shelvey and I think Newcastle did.”

Key player
Shelvey, who joined Newcastle from Swansea City in January 2016 for a transfer fee reported by The Guardian to be worth £12 million, is a key player in the current Newcastle team.
The Magpies will hope that the former Charlton Athletic star recovers soon, as Rafael Benitez’s side need him for the rest of the season.
The England international midfielder has started 16 Championship matches and made five substitute appearances for Newcastle so far this season.
