Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has told the club’s official Twitter page that he wants to keep hold of Leon Balogun beyond the summer of 2021.
As stated on Rangers’ official website, Balogun joined the Gers in the summer of 2020 on a one-year contract.
Rangers have the option to extend the 32-year-old defender’s deal by a further year, and manager Gerrard has said today that he plans to trigger it.
Gerrard described the Nigeria international centre-back as “a positive and bright character” on the Ibrox club’s official website in July 2020.
Important player for Rangers
Balogun was signed by Rangers due to injury to Nikola Katic, and the experienced defender has done well for the Gers.
According to WhoScored, the Nigerian has made 10 starts and three substitute appearances in the Scottish Premiership for Rangers so far this season.
The former Brighton and Hove Albion centre-back has also played five times in the Europa League and once in the Scottish League Cup for the Gers so far this campaign, according to WhoScored.
Balogun staying at Rangers next season would make sense, as it would continue to give Gerrard more options at the back.
