Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has been quoted as saying by The Daily Record that he found it tough to play against Celtic midfielder Scott Brown.

The former Liverpool midfielder faced Brown when England got the better of Scotland 3-2 in 2013.

The Daily Record quotes Gerrard as saying: ”There’s all different ways to be tough as a footballer.

“I think some of the ones that look tough and bounce around the football pitch acting tough are probably the ones that are not.

“I think where this comes from is Scott Brown. I’ve played against Scott Brown and he’s a tough competitor, a really good player.”

Scott Brown of Celtic is seen during the UEFA Champions League group B match between Celtic FC and RSC Anderlecht at Celtic Park on December 5, 2017 in Glasgow, United Kingdom.

Timely reminder

Brown is one of the best midfielders in Scotland and is a key figure in the current Celtic team.

The Scotland international may now be 32 years of age, but he remains as combative and competitive as ever.

The former Hibernian star has spent his entire professional club football career in Scotland, and detractors of Brown will point to that.

However, that should not undermine the quality and talent that Brown has, as evidenced in his performances in the Scottish Premiership and the Champions League over the years.

During his time at Celtic so far, Brown has won the league title seven times, the Scottish Cup thrice and the Scottish League Cup on four occasions.

Interestingly, both Gerrard and Brown have worked with Brendan Rodgers, who was in charge of Liverpool from 2012 until 2015 and is now the manager of Celtic.
