Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has raved about Cedric Itten to The Scottish Sun.

Gerrard has been impressed with Itten in the Rangers training sessions, and the Liverpool legend believes that the 23-year-old centre-forward will be a big player for the Gers.

The youngster came on as a substitute for Rangers in their 3-0 win against St Mirren at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday, and, according to WhoScored, the Switzerland international took one touch.

The forward has only recently joined Rangers from St Gallen in the summer transfer window.

Gerrard is also hopeful that another Rangers summer signing, striker Kemar Roofe, will be available soon.

Gerrard told The Scottish Sun about Itten: “He came into the game when it was won. I think we were managing the game then, keeping the ball and not forcing the issue.

“But from what I’ve seen in the opening two or three sessions, I think he’s going to be a big player for us.

“He has to get used to the players and used to the style. But there are loads of appearances for him here if he works hard and earns them. He can be a big player for us.”

The Rangers boss added about Roofe: “We’ve got Kemar Roofe coming back in to full training in a couple of days.”

Good signing for Rangers?

Itten is a good centre-forward who scored 20 goals for St. Gallen last season, according to BBC Sport.

Roofe is arguably a better and more established player upfront, but the Switzerland international will give Gerrard options.

The Rangers boss clearly rates the 23-year-old highly, and his aforementioned comments should encourage him.

Rangers have won both of their opening Scottish Premiership games of the season and are challenging for the title.
