Steven Gerrard responds when asked how Rangers plan to cope with Lyndon Dykes

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has told Sky Sports that he won’t be making any specific plans to deal with Livingston striker Lyndon Dykes.

The Gers take on Livingston on Sunday afternoon, and Gerrard’s men have a chance to put some early pressure on Celtic given that the Bhoys’ game has been postponed.

Still, a trip to the Tony Macaroni Arena isn’t an easy game, and the Gers will come up against a player who has been linked with a move to Ibrox.

Striker Dykes was a target for Rangers back in May according to The Scottish Sun, and the Daily Record noted last month that the Gers were still keen.

A move now looks to have been ruled out, as Rangers signed Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten instead, adding two new strikers to Gerrard’s options.

Rangers surely won’t add another given that they still have Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe, so Dykes now has a chance to show Rangers what they’re missing.

The 25-year-old was a nuisance to both Celtic and Rangers as he hit 12 goals and 10 assists last season, with his physical style causing problems.

Ahead of the game, Gerrard has been asked how he will cope with the Rangers-linked striker, but he will pick whichever defence he thinks is best rather than solely trying to combat Dykes, with George Edmundson and Filip Helander in the mix.

“We’ll pick the two best centre-backs we believe are capable of getting the right result,” said Gerrard. “We won’t really focus on any individual players that we’re going to be coming up against.”

“Filip came on and did extremely well and George (Edmundson) has had a real strong pre-season so I’ll give it as late as I need to and then make a decision who partners Connor (Goldson) because I think Connor is in excellent form. He deserves to keep his place, and I’ll make a late decision on Filip and George in the coming days,” he added.
