Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has told The Daily Record that there is ‘no rush’ to secure Connor Goldson to a new contract at Ibrox.
The Gers beat Celtic 2-0 on Saturday afternoon, and Goldson was the unlikely hero at Parkhead, as he scored both goals in the victory.
Goldson, 27, has been a regular for Rangers ever since signing from Brighton in the summer of 2018, when he became one of Gerrard’s first signings.
He now has 120 appearances and 12 goals to his name for Rangers, and seems to be Gerrard’s first-choice centre back at Ibrox.
Goldson’s performances for Rangers may just spark interest back down in England, where Goldson turned out for Shrewsbury Town and Brighton.
However, Gerrard doesn’t seem too concerned about that prospect, suggesting that there is ‘no rush’ give Goldson a new deal because he is already on a ‘good contract’.

Goldson will have 18 months left on his deal come January, so Rangers should at least have plans in mind for the defender, but Gerrard feels there are maybe 12 players who deserve new deals.
“I think Connor is on a good contract as we speak, there is certainly no rush on that one,” said Gerrard. “I can name probably a dozen players that in the back of my mind, I am certainly thinking about in terms of extensions and different contracts.”
“I don’t think there is any rush at the moment, there is nobody whose time is running out that we are desperate to chase to put pen to paper. I think we are in a good place. I think the message to all the players is to win football games and reward the club come the end of the season – and then we will certainly look after those individuals,” he added.
