Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has told The Daily Record that he is not interested in signing Claudio Marchisio.

According to RMC Sport, Rangers want to secure the services of Marchisio on a free transfer.

The Juventus legend is without a club at the moment, having left Russian Premier League outfit Zenit Saint Petersburg.

Rangers manager Gerrard has spoken highly of the 33-year-old Italy international midfielder, but the Liverpool legend has said that he is not planning to bring him to Ibrox.

Gerrard told The Daily Record when asked about speculation regarding Marchisio: “It’s just another name that gets bandied about. He is a fantastic player – I played against him. I love the player but there is no truth in that.”

No Rangers move

Marchisio is a very good midfielder and was one of the best players in the world in his prime, but the Italy international is past his best.

Rangers do have enough good midfielders, but the Italian would have added more class to the squad and would have brought a winning mentality to the unit.

With Gerrard saying that he is not interested in Marchisio, that should be the end of the speculation.

Rangers will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Livingston at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership.
