The ex Rangers striker could face Steven Gerrard’s side at Ibrox on Saturday.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard looks on during the Ladbrokes Premiership match between Hibernian and Rangers at Easter Road on March 08, 2019 in Edinburgh, United Kingdom.

Steven Gerrard has insisted he is not the type of manager who will use criticism from outside parties to motivate his Rangers players.

It follows comments made by Kris Boyd in his Scottish Sun column this week, in which the former Rangers striker claimed Borna Barisic does not want to be at Ibrox and slammed Mark Allen’s recruitment as the club’s ‘head of recruitment’.

Speaking ahead of Rangers’ visit of Boyd’s club, Kilmarnock, Gerrard told the Gers’ official Youtube channel: “No (he won’t be displaying Boyd’s comments on the dressing room wall). No.

“Players have got mobile phones. The media is in their hand. They’ll know what pundits and ex-players have said towards them personally. I’m sure Borna will be aware of what Kris has said.

“I don’t think Mark Allen will care too much what Kris has said because first of all he’s identified him as head of recruitment and that’s not his role! Mark Allen’s the technical director of the football club, who’s done an incredible job since he walked through the door.

“When he came in there needed to be a lot of changes in the team, in the squad, in the staff, at Ibrox, at the training ground, and he’s doing everything he can to improve things. And if you look at where the club is now to what he walked into, he should be applauded for the job he’s done.

“I don’t think Mark will be too worried about what other people think about him. But if I was Borna, I’m sure he can find the piece. And it’s up to Borna if he wants to comment on what Kris has said, or if he wants to show in his performances that Kris is wrong in what he said, that’s up to Borna not up to me.”

Boyd spent five years at Rangers across two spells, in which he scored 115 goals from 212 appearances.

However, the 35-year-old has only scored five from 20 in Kilmarnock colours this season and is not guaranteed to start for Steve Clarke’s side at Ibrox.

Rangers will be looking to close the gap to five points on Premiership leaders Celtic, who travel to Dundee on Sunday.

Is Boyd in any way right in what he said about Rangers?
