Celtic suffered a 2-0 loss at the hands of Livingston away from home in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday afternoon.
Also on Sunday, Rangers hammered Hamilton Academical 5-0 at Ibrox in the league.
The results mean that heading into the two-week international break, Rangers find themselves two points clear of their bitter Old Firm rivals Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.
Gerrard has said that he has told his Rangers players not to get carried, as it is still only October.
Gerrard told Rangers’ official Twitter page: “It is what it is. We are sitting top, but it is vitally important that we don’t get carried away because it is only October.
“Still early days. The challenge and the target for the team over the block of fixtures was to take 12 points from 12, and they have delivered and they have delivered in style.
“They deserve a lot of praise, and they should be really proud of themselves, but the message to them is it’s still October, and there’s still an awful lot of football to be played before we get carried away.”
Long season ahead
Rangers have been superb since they lost against Celtic in the Old Firm derby, and them going top is nothing more than what they deserve.
The Gers must remember that it is still only October, and that Celtic have shown time and again that they can bounce back from disappointing results.
