Steven Gerrard has told Michael Beale on Instagram to ‘go smash it’ after he left his role as his assistant at Aston Villa to become first-team manager at QPR.

Aston Villa announced on Twitter on Wednesday evening that Beale has left, after arriving with Gerrard in November, to pursue the next step in his career.

Beale has been seen as the brains behind Gerrard’s rise as a manager, working with him at Rangers, winning the Scottish Premiership crown and then landing the gig at Villa Park.

It remains to be seen who Villa bring in as his replacement because Beale will leave a big void in Gerrard’s backroom staff and on the Bodymoor Heath training ground.

Nonetheless, this is what Gerrard posted to Beale on his Instagram story, after his departure was confirmed.

“Best of luck at QPR,” said Gerrard. “Thanks for the last four years. Go smash it fella.”

BIG BLOW FOR VILLA AHEAD OF NEXT SEASON

There’s no doubt that Beale is going to be a big miss on the training ground and a blow for the team as they aim to return to Europe.

But, it’s come months before the new Premier League season can begin, which allows Gerrard to bring in a new face.

Plus, this is probably something Villa knew was coming and it’s not out of the ordinary for an assistant to leave his role for a first-team manager’s job elsewhere.

Nonetheless, whilst Villa fans will see Beale’s exit as bad news, at the end of the day, they have signed up Diego Carlos and Boubacar Kamara already.
