Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has told Rangers TV that he felt Jordan Jones really showed what he can do on Sunday.

The Gers travelled to Fir Park to take on Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership, having beaten Willem II in the Europa League on Thursday.

James Tavernier opened the scoring from the spot, before Jones raced clear to give Rangers a 2-0 lead, before Tavernier added another penalty.

Cedric Itten came off the bench to score his first two goals for Rangers, and George Edmundson’s late own goal could hardly take the gloss off a superb 5-1 win.

Gerrard will be delighted with how his squad players chipped in, as Calvin Bassey impressed at left back whilst Jones enjoyed a strong display down the right flank.

The 25-year-old looked set to leave Ibrox over the summer, with TEAMtalk reporting that Barnsley, Blackburn Rovers, Middlesbrough, Preston, QPR and Stoke City were all keen.

Jones was given a shock chance to shine against Motherwell, and took his opportunity with his goal and a promising showing throughout.

Gerrard has now admitted that Jones has been training well, and won’t settle for anything less than this standard of performance because he knows just how dangerous Jones can be when he is at his best.

“Well he deserved his opportunity because he came in on Thursday and put in a real strong cameo,” said Gerrard. “He’s been training well, he seems focused, he’s got his head down, and that’s the real Jordan Jones what we’ve seen; pace, a threat, quality, taking goals. I won’t settle for any less than that, because I know what he can bring, and that’s why we brought him to the club,” he added.
