Rangers legend Ally McCoist has said on talkSPORT (9:25am, October 11, 2021) that he is concerned to hear that Ibrox manager Steven Gerrard is being linked with Newcastle United.

Newcastle have new owners now and have been linked with Rangers manager Gerrard.

An investment group led by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), and also comprising PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media, have taken over Newcastle from Mike Ashley.

The Telegraph have claimed that current Newcastle manager Steve Bruce will be sacked before this coming weekend’s Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspur.

The Daily Mail have reported that Liverpool legend Gerrard – who earns £210,000 per month as salary at Rangers, according to Sportekz – is among the candidates to replace Bruce.

McCoist said on talkSPORT (9:25am, October 11, 2021) regarding Gerrard and Newcastle speculation: “Slightly concerned. I would be slightly concerned. I don’t know. Listen, there’s no use being worried about it.

“Steven had a great year last year, won the title. They haven’t started just as well this year, however, they are still sitting at the top of the league.

“Naturally he would be a name that would come into the equation as well.”

Should Rangers fans be concerned?

Newcastle are making all the headlines now and have grand plans.

It would not really surprise us if the Magpies make an approach for Gerrard.

However, Rangers fans need not worry right now.

Gerrard has been superb for Rangers over the years, and he is unlikely to leave the Gers during the season.

The Liverpool legend will know that leaving Rangers now would damage his relationship with the Ibrox faithful.

Gerrard will also want Rangers to succeed and win the Scottish Premiership title for the second season in a row.
