Aston Villa came close to signing Ismaila Sarr back in August, before Steven Gerrard pulled the plug on the deal – now, he could join Everton.

What’s the story?

Well, the Toffees are now said to be plotting a January move for the Senegal international – according to the Mirror.

Sarr – who cost Watford £40m – is a target for Frank Lampard, as he aims to turn Everton’s woeful campaign around.

As things stand, Everton sit 17th in the Premier League with just three wins from 15 outings.

If Lampard does get his hands on Sarr, he will have his old England teammate Gerrard to thank.

Before the 42-year-old was replaced by Unai Emery at Villa Park, the Villans agreed a £25m deal with Watford, only for the deal to collapse.

Gerrard later told the media that things “have to be right” regarding any player Aston Villa sign, suggesting that he wasn’t entirely happy with the agreement.

The BBC quoted him as saying: “If we want to make signings they have to be right in a lot of areas. If they’re not we won’t be hesitant in terms of going in a different direction and that was the case in this situation and we move forward. He is a fantastic player and we wish him well.”

Now, Everton – Gerrard’s old rivals during his Liverpool days – could benefit from that decision.

Aston Villa may regret Sarr decision if Everton agree deal

In our view, Sarr has the talent to make Aston Villa regret binning their agreement with Watford.

The 24-year-old is a superb forward, who is extremely direct and causes opponents all sorts of problems.

Sarr impressed for Senegal at the World Cup, and was clocked running at faster speeds than Kylian Mbappe in Qatar, which speaks volumes given the France international’s blistering pace.

So far this season, the Watford No.23 has scored six goals in 17 Championship appearances, while also providing three assists.

Be sure to keep an eye on Sarr, as he could soon be playing his football at Goodison Park.
