Steven Gerrard praises Rangers pair Ryan Jack and Glen Kamara

Glasgow Rangers stormed to an emphatic win at Ibrox, but Steven Gerrard was not entirely happy with the performance.

Steven Gerrard has suggested that he told Ryan Jack and Glen Kamara to rattle some cages in future as he felt that they were the two Rangers players who did not let their standards drop during the second-half of their 4-0 win on Wednesday, in comments reported by the Daily Record.

The Gers made it three wins on the bounce – with 14 goals coming in the process – as Kamara, James Tavernier and Alfredo Morelos put the home side 3-0 up at half-time against Dundee.

The fourth however, did not come until the 89th minute when Jermain Defoe rattled the ball into the back of the net. And while the margin of victory will please Gerrard, he was clearly unhappy with some aspects of the performance as he explained why he pulled Jack and Kamara aside after the full-time whistle.

“It was just a bit of coaching and advice for those two. They are in the middle of the pitch, they are the two conductors and they should be controlling the rhythm of the game – when to make it fast, when to make it slow,” he said, as reported by the Daily Record.

“If they want to become top leaders and keep improving, they should be going for people in the second half because you can’t let that amount of people in your team let their standards drop.

“I thought Glen and Ryan’s standards didn’t drop, they were probably the only two. So the advice is that when they smell that in future, go for a few people and rattle some cages because it’s not acceptable.”

It should be exciting for Rangers’s squad that Gerrard is demanding so much from his players. A 4-0 win seems to be a fantastic statement, but the Gers boss wants to see his side be even more ruthless.

Rangers arguably need a flawless run until the end of the season if they are going to push the title race all the way. And Gerrard not getting carried away with the entire performance from his side must boost their chances of putting that kind of run together.
