Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers are next in action at the weekend when they return to Scottish Premiership action.

Steven Gerrard has suggested to Glasgow Rangers’ official Twitter account that both James Tavernier and Borna Barisic will be starting a lot in the coming weeks at Ibrox.

Barisic and Tavernier are Rangers’ first choice full-back combination, but the pair have not been able to play together much of late.

Barisic’s injury has been a blow to Rangers, but he was able to feature in the Europa League last night.

Rangers lined up with Barisic and Tavernier on either side of their defence against Rapid Vienna.

And although Gerrard’s side were not able to avoid defeat, the Light Blues boss still thinks that having Tavernier and Barisic in his line-up will help in the long run.

He said: “I think moving forward if we can keep Tav and Borna on the pitch for a run of games and try and get all our strongest players back and available that will help myself.”

Gerrard’s comments look like bad news for the likes of Andy Halliday and Jon Flanagan, who may now struggle to get into Rangers’ team at full-back.

The Light Blues are set to have fewer midweek games now that they are out of Europe, so rotation may not be so important either.

Rangers are next in action at the weekend, when they take on Hamilton at Ibrox.
