Glasgow Rangers manager Steven Gerrard praises Ibrox defender Connor Goldson’s performance for the Gers on Thursday evening.
Rangers duo Allan McGregor and Connor Goldson celebrate
Ibrox club Rangers played out a goalless draw with Maribor away from home in the second leg of the Europa League Qualifying Third Round.
The result means that the Scottish Premiership side have progressed to the Europa League playoff round 3-1 on aggregate.
Goldson was in action for Rangers on Thursday evening, as the 25-year-old central defender started the match and played for the entire 90 minutes.
Rangers manager Gerrard was impressed with the performance of the Englishman, who joined the Gers from Premier League club Brighton and Hove Albion for a transfer fee reported by The Glasgow Evening Times to be worth £3 million.
Gerrard told Rangers’ official website: “Connor Goldson, again was top class – but everyone, collectively as a group every single person put in a great performance.”
Meanwhile, former Rangers star Peter Lovenkrands has taken to social networking site Twitter to revel in the Gers’ progress in Europe.
Derby County forward Martyn Waghorn also seems pleased to see his former club Rangers take another step towards the Europa League group stage.
The 28-year-old – who joined Derby from Championship rivals Ipswich Town in the summer transfer window for a fee reported by Sky Sports to be worth £5 million – was on the books of Rangers from the summer of 2015 until the summer of 2017.
