Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers may just be starting to threaten Celtic in the race for the title, if they pull off Steven Gerrard’s ambitious swoop.

According to The Scottish Sun, Glasgow Rangers are lining up a triple swoop which would make them genuine title contenders once again.

Rangers seem prepared to back new manager Steven Gerrard with funds, and he is keen to use his past contacts to strengthen the squad at Ibrox.

The Sun claim that Lucas Leiva, Martin Skrtel and Jermain Defoe are all on Rangers’ radar – as the Light Blues look to make wholesale changes to their squad.

And if Rangers could bring in Lucas, Skrtel and Defoe then their squad would have the capabilities of challenging Celtic for the first time since their return to the top flight.

The trio may all be reaching the end of their careers, but their quality remains undoubted.

Lucas would have the potential to be the best midfielder in Scotland, Skrtel would add steel to Rangers’ backline and Defoe would surely be the favourite to be top scorer in the SPFL, especially if Moussa Dembele does leave Parkhead.

The rumours are starting to set pulses races at Ibrox, and Rangers fans are right to start to feel excited, as if Gerrard pulls off the swoop, they may finally have to tools to end Celtic’s reign of dominance.
