Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has told The Scottish Sun that he appreciates how the board and Mark Allen signed his targets quickly this month.

The Gers have been busy in the transfer window this month, landing two signings for now and two for the future so far.

Veterans Jermain Defoe and Steven Davis have arrived on loan from Bournemouth and Southampton respectively, arriving to aid Gerrard’s title bid.

Rangers also prepared for next season, signing Dundee midfielder Glen Kamara and Kilmarnock winger Jordan Jones to pre-contract agreements for the summer.

Matt Polster may be the final signing for Rangers this month, meaning that the majority of their business was done within the first seven days of the window.

Rangers have been able to bed Davis and Defoe into the squad quickly as a result, welcoming them in during the recent training camp in Tenerife.

The pair could feature against Kilmarnock tonight, and Gerrard has offered words of praise to director of football Allen ahead of the game.

Gerrard has praised Allen and the Rangers board for delivering deals quickly, feeling that getting business done quickly has been hugely important whilst noting that getting loans and free transfers have been ‘very helpful’.

“I’m happy and satisfied. I think we have done really well in this window, getting the calibre of player that we have for nothing, for free,” said Gerrard. “We knew pretty quickly what we needed in this window. To be fair to the board and Mark Allen, they delivered very quickly. We got them in as early as we could.”

“We managed to get them over to Tenerife which was important to get them to settle and get used to the players. It was a lot easier with Davo, who knows a lot of people around the place. For Jermain, it was helpful getting business done pretty early. We have improved the quality in the squad. To do that without having to spend money has been very helpful,” he added.
