Steven Gerrard offers update on Ryan Kent, suggests he’ll excite Ibrox crowd

Rangers brought winger Ryan Kent to Ibrox on Sunday.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has told the Daily Record that new signing Ryan Kent is available for Thursday’s game against Osijek having been given very late clearance.

The Gers head to Croatia on Thursday night for their Europa League qualifying clash with Osijek, who finished fourth in Croatia’s top flight last season.

Having unconvincingly seen off Macedonian side FK Shkupi in the last round, Rangers will need to improve to beat Osijek, and Gerrard may be able to call upon a couple of new faces.

Lassana Coulibaly looks set to feature having been ineligible for the last round, whilst Ryan Kent will also be in contention having boarded the plane to Croatia today.

Kent, 21, joined Rangers on a season-long loan deal on Sunday, with Gerrard pouncing to land another favour from former club Liverpool having previously signed Ovie Ejaria on loan too.

The winger, who has been with Liverpool since 2003, has yet to make a Premier League appearance for the Reds, and after poor loan spells with Freiburg and Bristol City last season, he is looking to make a major impact at Ibrox.

Now, Gerrard has told the Daily Record that Kent has been given clearance to play agianst Osijek, with Rangers receiving the news just 24 hours before they take to the field.

Gerrard added that he thinks Kent is quick and aggressive and will excite fans, with the hope that he can add creativity which Jamie Murphy and Josh Windass have so far struggled to provide under Gerrard.

“He has just got clearance so he is available – he’s an attacking player who can play on either side, as well as a No.10 – he’s quick and aggressive in possession and an exciting player to watch,” said Gerrard. “We hope he can help in terms of creativity in the final third. It will take him a little time to settle in but he’s in a good place after two or three weeks with Jurgen Klopp who is not shy in terms of working his players hard,” he added.
