Glasgow Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has told the club’s official website that he would actually like Allan McGregor to take over from him as manager at Ibrox.

McGregor may be 39 now, but he is showing no signs of slowing down at Rangers.

The Scot has enjoyed a simply remarkable season and he was once again in top form as Rangers beat Celtic yesterday.

The veteran goalkeeper saved a penalty, as Rangers won 2-0 in the Scottish Cup.

And Gerrard has suggested that he would back McGregor to take over from him as manager one day.

“McGregor, I’m bored of speaking about him,” said Gerrard.

“He’s world-class, I’ve said it before. We’ve just give him a year deal but we should’ve give him a ten one because he can have my job after me, we love him that much he can have whatever he wants.”

If McGregor does pen a new deal then it will be a major boost to Rangers.

There is no reason to believe that his form will slow next term, as despite his signs of age, he appears just as good as ever.

Rangers’ win over Celtic yesterday was achieved after goals from Steven Davies and an own goal from Jonjoe Kenny.
