Liverpool’s squad is filled with plenty of Premier League talent.
Arne Slot’s style is all about attacking football, and Liverpool fit right into that approach.
But it is not just about what happens up front. Midfield play is often what sets teams apart, and the Reds have built a group capable of handling both sides of the ball.
They have a group in place now that can cover plenty of ground defensively while also getting forward to support attacks.
Nobody did that better than Steven Gerrard during his playing days. He knows exactly what it takes to succeed in the middle of the pitch. And he holds one of Liverpool’s midfielders in high regard, placing him above Declan Rice in recent comparisons.
Steven Gerrard rates Alexis Mac Allister higher than Declan Rice

Rice’s talent is clear, and his £100m price tag reflects the high expectations that come with being the most expensive Englishman in Premier League history.
Despite the hefty fee, though, not everyone sees him as the league’s best midfielder. Gerrard included.
The former Liverpool captain was repeatedly asked to choose between pairs of players and decide who came out on top during a TikTok ‘winner stays on’ trend.
When Mac Allister came up, he often got the nod from Gerrard, even over Rice.
The Argentine also got picked ahead of Moises Caicedo, Bruno Guimaraes, Enzo Fernandez and Ryan Gravenberch.
‘Macca’ is clearly in that conversation. Given what Liverpool paid for him compared to some of those other names, it looks like they found real value in the market.
Keeping hold of Alexis Mac Allister could prove challenging for Liverpool
Mac Allister has become one of the most important players in the squad, and when he is missing or not at 100%, it really shows on the pitch.
But with that rise in form, increased attention follows. Top clubs across Europe have started to take notice.
Real Madrid had already considered a move, though nothing came of it at the time. But that does not mean they will not revisit the idea down the line.
He fits that profile, too – talented, composed, and versatile. It is easy to see why Real might come calling again.
For now, though, he remains a key part of Arne Slot’s plans. But as we head into the next summer window, do not be surprised if his name starts popping up in transfer rumours once again.
