Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard are two of football’s great rivals.
Their playing careers were both intrinsically linked due to their positions, styles of play and roles in the England team, while debate still wages on today about which player was better.
Regardless of which side of the debate you land on, one thing is for sure, Gerrard had plenty of reasons to be jealous of Lampard throughout his career.
Indeed, while both players were absolutely world-class, there’s no argument as to which player was more decorated.
While Gerrard won plenty with Liverpool, Lampard’s Chelsea side dominated England for a period on the mid-2000s. Lampard has three Premier League winners’ medals to his name, four FA Cup triumphs, two League Cups, a Champions League and a Europa League.
Meanwhile, Gerrard’s trophy haul, albeit impressive, is incomparable to Lampards. The Liverpool legend can boast no Premier League titles, just two FA Cups and three League Cups, and, of course, a Champions League triumph.
Gerrard certainly had reason to be envious of his Chelsea counterpart during their playing careers, but now that they’re both managers, he may once again have reason to be jealous of Lampard because of one player.

We’re talking about Nathan Patterson.
Lampard joined Everton towards the end of last month, just a few weeks after the Toffees had signed Patterson, and he’s a player that Gerrard is a massive fan of.
Gerrard worked with the young Scotsman at Rangers, and it’s fair to say that the ex-Gers gaffer enjoyed working with Patterson. In fact, he once labelled him as ‘outstanding’.
Gerrard may have Matty Cash at right-back, but with Atletico Madrid circling, we’re sure that the 41-year-old would love the option of having Patterson within his squad to act as a natural replacement.
Unfortunately though, Patterson no longer plays under Gerrard, he plays under his long-time rival, and we can imagine that Stevie G is a tad jealous of the fact Lampard is working with a player the Aston Villa boss has championed for so long.
