Following Rangers’ goalless draw with St. Johnstone at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership last weekend, manager Steven Gerrard suggested that the Gers are out of the title race.

Gerrard told Sky Sports: “Right now forget titles and forget closing gaps, the reality is to perform like that across the board in front of 50,000, well there’s your evidence.”

The Rangers manager, though, seems to have made an U-turn over his verdict on the Gers’ title race, and the Liverpool legend has now said that the Ibrox club are not going to give up.

The former England international midfielder made the U-turn following Rangers’ 5-0 victory over Kilmarnock at Ibrox in the Scottish Cup fifth-round replay at Ibrox on Wednesday evening and ahead of the Scottish Premiership match against Hamilton Academical away from home on Sunday afternoon.

Gerrard told The Glasgow Evening Times: “We won’t be giving up. When there are points available we will fight for them all.

“We have Hamilton and Dundee in the week and the challenge is to take maximum points and see what happens elsewhere. You have that hope and a chance to get back into it.”

Warning for Celtic

Celtic are eight points clear of second-placed and bitter Old Firm rivals Rangers at the top of the Scottish Premiership table at the moment.

Brendan Rodgers’s side are clearly the favourites, but Gerrard’s comments will be warning for them.

After all, Rangers are not giving up, and with star striker Alfredo Morelos in red-hot form, the Ibrox faithful will know that the team can out together a run of positive results.
