Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has admitted to The Scottish Sun that he hopes Mohamed Salah ’embarrasses’ his Liverpool record.
Salah scored for Liverpool on Tuesday night, racing clear of the Atalanta defence to score in a thumping 5-0 win for the Reds.
The goal means Salah has now drawn level with Gerrard’s all-time Liverpool goalscoring record in the Champions League, with the pair tied at 21.
With Gerrard long since retired and Salah only 28, the Egyptian will surely blaze past Gerrard’s record very, very soon.
Gerrard has his own European night to focus on as Rangers head to Benfica today, but he has still offered a comment on Salah’s exploits.
Gerrard admitted that he was ‘very proud’ to see Salah match his record, believing it was ‘only a matter of time’ as record are there to be broken.

The Rangers boss added that a prediction that Salah will ’embarrass’ his record, and actually hopes that he does having been impressed with his performances for the Reds.
“Records are there to be broken, of course they are,” said Gerrard. “I was very proud last night to see Mo Salah equal my scoring record for Liverpool in Europe, it was only a matter of time. I honestly think he’ll go on and embarrass my record — and I hope that he does,” he added.
