Steven Gerrard jokes about Andrew Robertson’s actions when Rangers play Celtic

Rangers take on bitter rivals Celtic at Ibrox this afternoon.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has told The Scottish Sun that he’ll have to speak to Liverpool’s Andrew Robertson about celebrating Celtic’s goals in Old Firm derbies.

The Gers host Celtic at Ibrox this afternoon in the latest instalment of the Old Firm derby, with Gerrard hoping to land another win over the Bhoys.

Gerrard led Rangers to a 1-0 victory over Celtic back in December, and will be looking for similar success this afternoon after a fine run of form.

Almost everyone in Glasgow, and even Scotland will be glued to the game, but it’s also taken on some importance down at Gerrard’s former club.

Liverpool’s focus will be on beating Wolverhampton Wanderers today, but Reds left back Robertson is a huge Celtic fan, so will have one eye on the game at Ibrox.

Robertson has played a key role in Liverpool’s superb season, and Reds legend Gerrard was asked for his thoughts about the Scotland international.

Gerrard joked that Robertson deserves ‘no praise’ because he’s a Celtic, adding that he’ll need a word with the left back having heard rumours about him ‘jumping about’ when Celtic score against the Gers.

Gerrard did though add that he thinks former Queens Park man Robertson is a top player and a fine example to all young players that it doesn’t matter where you start, only where you end up – but he’ll be hoping to make him unhappy this afternoon.

“Andy’s a Celtic fan, he deserves no praise off me!” said Gerrard. “I’ve heard the rumours about what’s going on at Melwood when the Old Firm game is on. I’ve got friends there, so I know Andy’s been jumping about in certain games and I’ll address that next time I see him!

“But, seriously, he’s been a breath of fresh air. He’s a top player. I admire where he started and where he’s got to. He’s an incredible example to players who have the same dreams and aspirations. He deserves everything that will hopefully come his way in the coming weeks and years. I hope he stays at Liverpool for a long time, he’s a top player,” he added.
