Glasgow Rangers have already brought six players to Ibrox, but Steven Gerrard has perhaps hinted that there is a lot more to come.
Despite an underwhelming campaign last time out, Rangers fans have needed little extra encouragement to start getting excited about the upcoming season with Steven Gerrard arriving as manager and a number of other new faces arriving through the Ibrox door.
Gerrard has officially been in charge for only a fortnight, and yet, the club have already managed six signings with Allan McGregor, Scott Arfield, Jamie Murphy, Ovie Ejaria, Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson all arriving since the previous campaign concluded.
The club is already well on its way to a considerable overhaul of the ranks, and in comments reported by Rangers’ official website, Gerrard seemed to hint that the Gers are a long way off being finished.
“In every area I think we can improve, we will pounce and we will do it.”
Rangers have, of course, undergone major changes during the previous two summer windows, so the Ibrox faithful may well only be allowing themselves cautious optimism at this stage as their recruitment record has been mixed since their return to the top flight.
Ejaria and Katic – and Goldson to an extent given how little he has played in recent years – are unproven prospects, but the deals for McGregor, Arfield and Murphy look to be fantastic pieces of business, especially with the former pair arriving on free transfers.
And if Gerrard’s remaining signings continue to strike that perfect blend between youth and experience, then perhaps Rangers will finally have the kind of squad that copes with the expectation and boasts the quality to put themselves in a title race in the near future.
