Glasgow Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has told the Glasgow Evening Times that too many of his players at Ibrox are going into their shells.

Gerrard has cut a frustrated figure in the press this week, after Rangers were beaten in the Scottish League Cup semi-final against Aberdeen.

Rangers lost 1-0 at Hampden Park at the weekend, and Gerrard’s anger has been clear to see.

The Rangers boss has criticised his players in the press in a manner which he never has before.

And Gerrard says that he has seen too many of his Rangers players playing within themselves this season.

“I watch closely and if they go into a shell then they’ve got a problem because you shouldn’t be at Rangers if you go into a shell,” Gerrard said.

“It’s the wrong place. They can’t do it.

“There’s been too many players here of late that are prepared to go into that shell. We can’t have them round here. It can’t happen.”

Rangers just never really got going against Aberdeen, and failed to show the cutting edge required to make it to the final of the competition.

Gerrard’s side will be looking to bounce back immediately from that disappointment when they take on Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership later this evening.
