Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers are said to be set to keep Josh Windass and James Tavernier in Steven Gerrard’s squad.

According to the Daily Record, Glasgow Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has decided that he wants to keep James Tavernier and Josh Windass at Ibrox, and that looks a smart move from the new Gers boss.

Gerrard only officially started work at Rangers at the start of the month, and it has taken him no time to decided that he wants to keep Tavernier and Windass at Ibrox.

Both Tavenier and Windass had been linked with moves away from Rangers to England this summer, but by keeping them about Gerrard has been smart.

The pair could both be key for Rangers’ chances next season, and replacing them both would have been far from easy.

Tavernier is arguably the finest right-back in Scotland, with his attacking qualities making him a major threat.

Tavernier’s goalscoring record for Rangers is nothing short of remarkable for a defender, and if Gerrard can improve his performances in a defensive sense, then he could be a massive asset.

Windass, meanwhile, has his critics at Ibrox, but he had a very productive season last time out.

The 24-year-old has improved over every season he has been at Rangers, and contributed with 18 goals and eight assists last term.

Gerrard should have all the knowledge to make Windass an even more potent force next time around, and if he continues to get better, than the former Accrington man will be vital for Rangers’ chances next term.
