Speaking to Aston Villa’s official club website, Steven Gerrard has been discussing the Villans and their fanbase.

Gerrard has spent his entire life representing clubs with some of the most passionate fans in the world. Liverpool supporters, especially on those legendary European nights in Anfield, are incredibly passionate, while nobody needs reminding just how electric Rangers supporters can be at Ibrox.

Villa fans are cut from the same cloth and Gerrard says that he’s well aware that he’ll be under pressure from the fans.

What’s been said?

Gerrard spoke about the challenge of managing a club with such a passionate fanbase.

“For me, I like a challenge, I like a risk. It’s something I’m really looking forward to getting into. I think this club will suit me because the fans are very passionate. There’s that demand and the pressure here to win, that’s something I’ve lived with since I was 17/18 years of age, so, for me, it’s about making everyone come together and be unified and I believe we can do exciting things together,” Gerrard said.

Up to the challenge

If any manager is up to the challenge of taking charge of a club with a ravenous fanbase, it’s Gerrard.

He captained Liverpool through what, with all due respect, was their most unsuccessful spell of the modern era, while he also had a mountain to climb when he arrived at Rangers as he had to stop a Celtic side that had dominated Scotland for almost a decade.

Villa fans simply won’t accept failure and Gerrard is a man who is likely to thrive under such pressure.
