Kyle Lafferty now appears to be Rangers’ third choice striker.

Kyle Lafferty of Rangers is seen during the first leg of the UEFA Europa League Play Off match between Rangers and FC Ufa at Ibrox Stadium on August 23, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Kyle Lafferty has everything to prove at Rangers as the Light Blues kick off the second half of the season.

Lafferty re-signed at Ibrox in late August to huge fanfare.

It has provided mixed results so far, with Lafferty battling with form and fitness.

He has only scored three times for Rangers in the Premiership so far, with his last league goal coming back on September 23.

It comes as little surprise then that Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is planning to make Alfredo Morelos and new signing Jermain Defoe his first choice strike pairing.

The Scottish Sun: “It looks dangerous. They are two good players and they seem to like playing together. Having Jermain here gives us that option, and having Kyle Lafferty as well.”

Gerrard has shown Lafferty remains in his plans, just not at the very centre of them.

He has laid down the challenge to the Northern Ireland international to force his way into the side.

The manager has indicated he plans to play two strikers, and this is good for Lafferty even though he’s third choice, as it means he will be the first option off the bench when Rangers need a goal.

If he can seize his chance and start scoring goals as a substitute, he can get back on track and show he deserves starting opportunities too.
