It seems as though Steven Gerrard could end up being the next manager of Aston Villa.

The Rangers boss has been strongly linked with a move to Villa Park, and while that’s an exciting prospect for a number of reasons, one Villa player, in particular, ought to be excited.

Gerrard has previously been full of praise for Danny Ings during his time at Liverpool, and his past comments on the striker seem to suggest that he could be a key player under this potential new regime.

What’s been said?

Gerrard was quick to praise Ings when he joined Liverpool.

“The Ings one I’m really excited about, because he can be what he wants to be. I know the talent’s there, he’s very young, he’s fresh,” Gerrard said.

“I think if he carries on learning and developing he can become a top striker and we love top strikers, so the stage is there. I wish him the best of luck and I’m looking forward to watching him play.

“For me, the supporters just need to be patient with him. He’s still very young and I’m sure he’ll get eased in gently.

He was right

Although things didn’t quite work out for Ings at Liverpool, Gerrard’s prediction was spot on.

Ings was unbelievable at Southampton, he netted 21 league goals for the Saints in the 19/20 season and as Gerrard said he has become a top striker.

Ings joined Villa this summer and if Gerrard does become the Midlands club’s new gaffer, he could be one of the Villans’ most important players going forward.
