Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has hailed the impact of substitutes Cedric Itten and Bongani Zungu in the 2-1 win over Dundee United.
The Gers headed to Tannadice in search of three points to continue their push for the title, and secured them in what was a real battle.
James Tavernier’s stunning free kick put Rangers in front, only for Liam Smith to equalise for the hosts with a superb finish from a tight angle.
Connor Goldson headed home the winner from a Tavernier free kick to give Rangers another win, keeping their 13-point lead over Celtic at the top of the table.
It wasn’t vintage Rangers, and Gerrard called upon a couple of summer signings to see out the game, a move which worked well.
Striker Itten came on to replace Alfredo Morelos and helped hold up possession in the Dundee United half, building on his fine goal against Lech Poznan on Thursday.

Midfielder Zungu also came on as he looks to build up his fitness, having been eased in gradually at Ibrox following his October move from Amiens.
After the final whistle, Gerrard told Rangers TV that he felt adding both Itten and Zungu into the game helped Rangers control the second half and secure all three points – and both players should take huge confidence from those comments as they look to kickstart their Rangers careers.
“The subs that came on were effective for us,” said Gerrard. “I thought bringing Itten into the game, and Zungu, really helped us control the final part of the game,” he added.
