Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has the Glasgow Times that he feels ‘lucky’ to have inherited midfielder Ryan Jack.

The Gers were in fine form on Saturday afternoon, smashing Ross County 5-0 in a dominant performance at Ibrox.

Ryan Kent, Filip Helander, Joe Aribo, Ryan Jack and Connor Goldson were all on the scoresheet as Rangers again showed why they’re heading for the title as things stand.

This game saw Jack make his return to action, having missed the last nine league games through injury.

The 28-year-old has had calf and knee injuries in what has been a frustrating campaign this term, but reminded fans of his quality on Saturday.

After Saturday’s win, Gerrard suggested that Jack is a ‘fantastic footballer’, and is a key leader at Rangers in terms of the way he drives standards.

There haven’t been all that many positives from the Pedro Caixinha era, but he did oversee the free transfer signing of Jack from Aberdeen in 2017.

Gerrard noted that he feels ‘lucky’ to have inherited a player like Jack, and now wants to keep him fit for as long as possible.

“I said before the game how important it is to have Jacko back for many reasons,” said Gerrard. “Firstly because he’s a fantastic footballer, but he also drives standards with the way he trains. He demands things from people around him in the right way. He’s a leader and has been a captain before.”

“I was really lucky to take on Ryan Jack — other coaches and teams have done a fantastic job with him. The longer we can keep him fit between now and the end of the season the better because he makes the group stronger in all kinds of different ways,” he added.
