Rangers beat Ufa 1-0 at Ibrox on Thursday evening.
Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has told Rangers TV that he thinks defender Lee Wallace can be a big positive for the club after being named on the bench against Ufa.
The Gers were back in Europa League qualifying action on Thursday night as they hosted Russian side Ufa at Ibrox, knowing that they were the only team left to beat in order to clinch a group stage place.
After seeing off FK Shkupi, Osijek and Maribor, Rangers can now see the group stage in sight – and they moved another step closer with a narrow with on Thursday.
Summer signing Connor Goldson struck the only goal of the game in the first half, handing Rangers a 1-0 win and something to take to Russia next week for the return leg.
Gerrard will be looking to finish off the job, and he should have Lee Wallace in and around his squad for that game after his surprise recall against Ufa.
Many had thought that Wallace’s Rangers career was over after a spot with former boss Graeme Murty, but Gerrard named him on the bench against Ufa, with Borna Barisic cup-tied.
After the game, Gerrard was asked about Wallace’s situation, and told Rangers TV that he feels Wallace is a real leader and has had a long journey back to full fitness, and whilst he didn’t intend to use him against Ufa, he wanted to get him back amongst the first-team squad as he can be a real positive for Rangers yet.
“Lee is a leader,” said Gerrard. “He had a tough time with injury but I wanted to name him on the bench tonight, not necessarily to use him, but just to start getting him the feel for it again and being back around the dressing room.”
“The idea now is to push him and get him match fit as quick as we can. He will be a big positive for us,” he added.
