The former Liverpool captain has been reflecting on one of the side’s young prospects.
Steven Gerrard says Jon Flanagan is known as ‘Mini Carra’ in the Liverpool dressing room due to his similarities with iconic defender Jamie Carragher, according to his autobiography ‘My Story.’
The 23-year-old has recently made his comeback from a very long injury absence and is already stealing hearts again – among fans and, most of all, manager Jurgen Klopp.
Even back in the days of Brendan Rodgers, however, Flanagan was a key asset at Liverpool and the players believe he resembles Carragher heavily.
Indeed, on page 165 of his autobiography, Gerrard said: “Liverpool fans don’t call him the Red Cafu for no reason. In the dressing room, he’s also known as ‘Mini Carra’ because he has so many similar attributes.”
Brad Smith was another Liverpool youngster who impressed the Reds faithful in the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon.
And with plenty of young energy within the ranks at Anfield and Melwood, you have to worry for the likes of Alberto Moreno and Jose Enrique.
Enrique’s Liverpool career looks over in all but name. Moreno, however, has been extremely disappointing – always recklessly wondering forward and infuriating boss Klopp with his carelessness at the back.
It could be Flano’s time to shine.
